Is this right for my dog?

Agility is great for

High-energy dogs
Dogs who need more mental stimulation
Beginners — and dogs who have done some before
Dogs still learning basic obedience

Not required

You don't need

Perfect recall
Prior training experience
Special equipment
A fenced yard (helpful, not required)

Sessions run from a first-timer's introduction up to mid-level work. The point is a good time with your dog — this isn't competition prep, so if you're training for trials you want a different kind of coaching.

How it works

Your yard becomes the course

1 · Setup

I set up agility equipment designed for safety, confidence-building, and backyard spaces: jumps, a tunnel, and low-impact obstacles.

2 · Guided exercises

I guide you and your dog through fun, beginner-friendly exercises.

3 · Your dog's pace

We build skills over time. Most dogs spend multiple sessions in each phase.

4 · On leash first

All dogs start on leash to build focus. As your dog gains confidence, we work toward off-leash handling when appropriate.

The three phases

Dogs progress at their own pace

1

Introduction to Agility

Building confidence and engagement, and introducing simple obstacles.

2

Building Skills

Dogs begin combining obstacles and improving focus and handling.

3

Advancing Confidence & Flow

Short sequences, more independence, more responsiveness.

Dog/owner team

Work together with your dog and learn how to handle the obstacles yourself.

Dog-focused

I work directly with your dog while you observe. We'll meet you where you and your dog are most comfortable.

Safety first

A few questions before we start

Before the first session I'll ask about your dog's age, health, and history to make sure agility is a safe and positive fit. If needed, we'll modify exercises or recommend a better starting point to keep your dog happy and injury-free.

I compete in agility with my own two Shelties, Jax and June, and hold titles through AKC, USDAA, UKI and CPE.
